W09: A thorough introduction to CODAP (Room 112)

Tim Erickson (Lick-Wilmerding High School & Epistemological Engineering)

Abstract

CODAP is a free, web-based educational software tool for data analysis, developed for students in grades 6-14.  Starting to use CODAP is easy...but then what? In this half-day workshop, you'll quickly advance from CODAP novice to CODAP expert, focusing on tasks that fit into statistics and data-science classes at the introductory level. You will learn how to: explore large-ish (several thousand cases) datasets; use data moves to reveal patterns in the data; use CODAP to do randomization-based inference; make probability models using block programming within CODAP; load data into CODAP; customize CODAP documents and share them with students; and much more.

No experience with CODAP? No problem. We'll start from ground zero and rapidly advance. But bring a laptop or a powerful tablet; you can't use CODAP effectively on a phone.

Materials will be online. You'll get a durable "landing page" URL in the workshop.
