Abstract

"Any society that fails to harness the energy and creativity of its women is at a huge disadvantage in the modern world." - Tian Wei

This lesson seeks to drive an important conversation about women representation in STEM careers. Part of the beauty is the flexibility in the types of data used that may be of interest to a particular instructor or group of students, and the overall structure of the pipeline model guides the conversation. This lesson has been taught in a college class and was exceptionally engaging and personal as the group included many women in STEM majors. The richness of the in-class experience as well as the importance of the topic motivated this submission.

"No country can truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contribution of half its citizens." - Michelle Obama
