CAUSE Apprenticeship Mentor-as-we-go Research in Statistics and Data Science Education Model

Jennifer Noll (TERC); Nicola Justice (Pacific Lutheran University)

Developing a mentoring program is one of the initiatives that arose from a recent gathering of stakeholders in CAUSE (the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education). While many mentoring models exist, this particular mentoring program would focus on using an apprenticeship model (learn by doing together, not just meeting to discuss)  to provide participants experience with grant writing and rigorous statistics and data science education research. The goals of this session are to informally discuss what a program might look like, what participation prerequisites might be, and ideas for accountability, sustainability, and stewardship of time and innovation.
