A workshop on Changing with Technology and Building the Central Ohio Statistics Education Community

Abstract:

The goals of this workshop are:

  1. to build and strengthen connections between statistics educators in central Ohio
  2. to showcase new and up-and-coming technologies and how they are being used in statistics classrooms and
  3. to help those who don’t have the luxury of a large budget or state-of-the art facilities to start small, with free or low-cost technologies that do a good job.
We will highlight ways we have made changes and upgrades in using technology in our own courses (e.g., creating online versions of two of our large general education courses, using Top Hat in large lectures to better engage our students, etc.), and we will invite others to share innovative ways they are using technology. A keynote speaker will be OSU's own Jim Fowler, whose work creating videos to teach Calculus was featured in Forbes Magazine (http://tinyurl.com/hqct7rn).
