Presented by:

Laura Taylor & Kirsten Doehler, Elon University

Abstract

While utilizing code-based software in an introductory statistics class has advantages, it can also result in increased student anxiety. This presentation provides information on experiences of two faculty members in teaching code-based software in an introductory class along with suggestions on how to minimize student anxiety. Reasons for using code-based software are discussed along with advice on how to teach and assess coding skills. Results are reported from a survey that was administered to gather data on student experiences in learning how to use code to analyze data.
