Information
I present a set of learning objectives and associated rubrics that I developed for a half-semester course on statistical graphics. Assessment rubrics are widely available for many statistics-course topics, but not all. My primary contribution is a coherent set of software-agnostic rubrics for data visualization. These can help ensure consistent and fair grading on such subjective assignments; pinpoint student learning on specific subtopics within statistical graphics; and give students control and transparency over their own progress. I taught the course in Fall 2015, using a "specifications-based grading" approach.
