Abstract
The 2016 GAISE guidelines include the new emphasis "Give students experience with multivariable thinking". The session will address ways to teach this topic, at the introductory level, through the use of data visualizations. Participants will engage in sample activities and assessments designed to teach multivariable thinking by incorporating additional variables into familiar plots. Activities are also designed to build an appreciation for data and data visualization by exposing intro students to visualizations far beyond the static one and two variable plots typically taught in intro stat.
