# Simulation

• ### The Assessment Challenge in Statistics Education

This site provides the contents of the online book "The Assessment Challenge in Statistics Education".
• ### A Brief Overview of Switching Theory and Practice

This powerpoint presentation from INFORMS Applied Probability Society provides a brief overview of switches, routers, input-queued crossbars, combined input- and output-queued switches, buffered crossbars, and algorithms for bandwidth partitioning, security, encryption, and deep packet inspection.
• ### Long Range Dependence

This tutorial presentation from INFORMS Applied Probability Society covers the long range dependence (or long memory)property of certain stationary stochastic processes.
• ### Stat-Attic Statistics Applets for Teaching Topics in Introductory Courses

This site contains links to and descriptions of over 600 applets that can be used for demonstrations or analysis of topics commonly covered in introductory statistics courses.

• ### An Illustration of Bootstrapping Using Video Lottery Terminal Data

The dataset described in this article contains information on 345 plays on an electronic slot machine and the prize for each. This data can be used to illustrate parametric bootstrapping and tests of independence for two and three-way contingency tables involving random zeroes. Key Words: Simulation; Elementary probabilities.
• ### Statistics and Probability Concepts

This is a collection of activities as Java applets that can be used to explore probability and statistics. Each activity is supplemented with background information, activity instructions, and a curriculum for the activity.
• ### Random Babies Activity

This worksheet activity teaches random sampling and theoretical probabilities by simulating the effects of randomly assigning newborn babies to their mothers. Students will perform trials and keep track of results, then use the information to deduce properties of random sampling. The relation website is an applet that simulates the process automatically.
• ### Song: It's Only Just a Poll (But I Like It)

Song addresses the value of a scientific poll. May be sung to the tune of the Rolling Stones' hit "It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It)" by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Musical accompaniment realizationare by Joshua Lintz and vocals are by Mariana Sandoval from University of Texas at El Paso.

• ### Random Babies Applet

This applet simulates randomly assigning newborn babies to families and measures the number of matches, or instances when a baby is assigned to its real family. The applet keeps track of each trial and records the information in a histogram. The idea is to teach theoretical values associated with random sampling. The relation website is a worksheet activity to accompany the applet.
• ### Bootstrapping

This lesson describes bootstrapping in the context of a statistics class for psychology students.
