Several mobile apps (including some I have designed) give students access to a variety of statistical procedures relevant for intro stats. But should we even allow the use of smartphones during class? On the upside, such apps are easy to access for almost everyone (as opposed to, say, running up a computer lab), lead to reproduceable results and encourage engagement and collaboration, but will they be more of a distraction than a useful technology?
