B1E: Let's build and share social justice statistical education resources

Jess Kunke (University of Washington), Tyler George (Cornell College)

Abstract

Many statistics educators are incorporating justice, education, diversity, or inclusion (JEDI) into their teaching models to engage students, connect statistics to society, and promote ethical uses of statistics. The JEDI-CAUSE website is one collection of JEDI resources for educators, including datasets, activities, pedagogical guidance, and more. This breakout session serves to introduce you to the website, explore and discuss some examples of the resources currently available on the website, identify gaps we would like to fill in this collection of resources and discuss how to make these resources as helpful as possible in your teaching contexts. Through discussions and a think-pair-share activity, we will learn from each other how we are already implementing JEDI in our teaching, trade resources and ideas, and strengthen the existing community resources on this topic. Whether you already incorporate social justice and community-based research into your classrooms or you want to learn more about it, we will value your participation in this discussion and activity. No prior knowledge is required.
