Abstract
The Gestalt principles of grouping account for the human tendency to search for patterns and groupings. Typically, the Gestalt principles are discussed in the context of data visualizations; however, these principles extend naturally to other situations in which information is visually presented. Workshop participants will first learn about these principles and then participants will be asked to apply these principles to construct appealing and effective data visualizations, data tables, and presentation slides. In addition, workshop participants will be asked to identify how these core principles can be incorporated into their own work and/or the courses they teach.
No pre-requisite knowledge of visualization principles is needed.
