Information
Oftentimes undergraduate students (especially from historically underrepresented groups) pursue areas of study outside of statistics. However, when provided with greater early exposure to the broader statistical community through conference experiences, students are given the opportunities necessary to ‘picture’ themselves in statistics, increasing their potential to pursue further education/training. Discussion will revolve around one successful program, specifically focusing on ways to recruit and encourage participation, find suitable and inclusive conferences, and determine appropriate projects. Other topics for discussion may include programs at other institutions, funding difficulties, and additional means to add value to our discipline by opening it earlier to others.
