S06: Math Placement and Support for Statistics

Adam Molnar (Oklahoma State University)

Information

Approximately half of all high school graduates do not meet ACT/SAT standards of "college ready" in mathematics and thus often struggle with statistics formulas. Many colleges are piloting new ways to place students into elementary statistics and reduce the chain of developmental mathematics courses. Colleges are also examining ways to support less mathematically prepared students, including stretch, extended-time, and corequisite courses. This discussion will be about making connections, sharing successful results, and also sharing things that didn't work as well.
