S04: A Social Science Perspective for Integrating Theory, Methodology and Data Analytics

Wib Leonard (Illinois State University)

Information

I will discuss the use of data analytics for evaluating evidence based research in the social sciences by using a heuristic device known as the wheel diagram. Using this visual scheme the presentation would begin with: Theory, through which logical deduction generates testable hypotheses. These hypotheses will be operationalized and a data gathering technique will be chosen to select a sample of subjects. The outcome of the analytics will produce empirical generalizations, and, finally, through logical induction, decisions will be made as to how the statistical outcomes bear upon the research framing.
