Toward Statistician Identity Achievement

Abstract

Most established statisticians may have “statistician” in identity foreclosure, that is, they have not attempted any exploration of their identity as a statistician since they were in graduate school. Some may have “statistician” in identity moratorium, and are actively exploring different identities, but have not made a commitment to one statistician identity. Where we need to go as a group is identity achievement, having actively explored different identities and committed to one identity as “statistician.” Be part of an active exploration of our identities as statisticians. We’ll use some online technologies such as Google Docs and WallWisher to have our discussion, create an affinity diagram, and develop consensus on one statistician identity.
