Abstract
I teach a statistics course for future teachers of mathematics at the High School level, which covers data collection, descriptive statistics, inference, and regression modelling. While these topics are no different than the ones covered in our statistics courses for science and statistics majors, the purpose of the course in the curriculum is quite different. It was thus very important to me to design the course so that it would not only prepare students to read and understand statistical analyses, or conduct their own, but also to teach statistics to high school students.
Here, I will present a course project which I created to include more authentic tasks for future teachers in my statistics course. I will also share advice on how to approach the grading of such evaluation without directly assessing the student’s teaching skills, which may not be a specific learning outcome for the course.
