In this session I will discuss how to augment traditional regression course material with simple tree-based machine learning techniques using real-world examples. We will discuss the limitations of regression and logistic regression with large, observation data sets and look at simple alternatives to p-values for model selection. I will also demonstrate how Classification and Regression Trees (CART) can provide an intuitive picture of complex relationships that even introductory statistics students can understand.
