We had 11 submissions for the July caption contest that featured a cartoon showing jumping into a pool filled with numbers while two people out of the pool are drying themselves with towels that have statistical graphics printed on them.
The winning caption for the July contest was “Dare to dive deep into the number-pool, navigate with Statistics, and come out refreshed with meaningful inference!” written by Debmalya Nandy, a student at Penn State University. The judges found the caption to be a nice play on words; succinctly describing an important statistical paradigm.
Two honorable mentions this month were given to:
- “Check that variances are equal before diving in with pooled variance!” written by Larry Lesser from The University of Texas at El Paso
- “When do you think the new guy will realize that sometimes several quick explorations are better than one deep dive?” written by Jim Alloway of EMSQ Associates.
