October Results:

The cartoon for our 101st cartoon caption contest in October is shown above. Amongst the 42 submissions for the contest, the judges found the winning caption for the cartoon to be “Tulips are yellow, daisies are pink, simple random sampling for these fields, could be worse than you might think!” submitted by high school student Jackson Lin, from North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Jackson’s caption can be used in discussing how simple random sampling can be improved upon by taking obvious explanatory factors into account.  Honorable mentions in this contest  go to both Chris Lacke from Rowan University for the caption "After taking a course in agricultural statistics, Farmer Brown became heavily involved in split-plot designs.” and to Charlie Smith from NCSU for the caption “A split plot design could lead you precisely to different levels of precision.” Chris and Charlie’s captions can be used in a conversation about how you should make the factor you are most interested in as the split plot factor and the other factor as the whole plot.

Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption and congratulations to our winners!
