July Results:
The July caption contest cartoon is shown above. The judges found the winning caption to be “Creatures of habit explore data via z(ebra) scores, extended mosaic plots, and lion of best fit.” submitted by Larry Lesser from The University of Texas at El Paso. Larry’s quadruple pun caption can be used in general discussions of summary statistics and graphical presentations. An honorable mentions this month goes to Jim Brumbaugh-Smith from Manchester University for the caption "Overlooking stratification or time-dependence may lead to foolishly sticking one's neck out!  which can be used to discuss the need to examine important stratifications in scatterplots and the importance of looking for patterns with time in analyzing data. A second honorable mention goes to to Rushabh Gala, a student at North Carolina State University, for the caption “The best way to show the change in African wildlife population is of course by using a bar GiRAPH.” Rushabh’s caption can start a conversation about when a simple bar graph may be the best visual display to use (e.g. an instructor might challenge their class to suggest variables that match the cartoon where a bar graph would be most appropriate.)

Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption and congratulations to our winners!
