Building Cohesive Values and Learning Goals for a Sequence of Core Data Science Courses

Abstract

While the study of data science is expanding rapidly at many institutions, building and defining a core data science course sequence can be challenging. In this breakout session, each participant will hone goals for a data science program specific to their institution that can be used to develop or refine their own core curriculum. We will approach this task by first defining the common values and themes that apply to all data science courses at each institution. Then, with these values and themes in mind, participants will be invited to define and share one overall learning goal that might apply to all core data science courses at your institution. With this framework, I hope that you will be able to continue developing learning goals after the session that build cohesion between data science courses.
