Abstract
The concept of statistical power, the factors that affect it, and its relationship with the sampling distribution of a statistic can be difficult concepts for students to explore and grasp in a traditional calculus-based mathematical statistics course. Often times, these relationships are explored through derivations of power functions and their resulting curves. This lecture based approach to understanding power can be restrictive and prevent a student from making critical discoveries on their own. In this poster, we discuss the development of an interactive ShinyR web applet, and how this web applet, in conjunction with guided activities, can be implemented in the classroom to allow students to explore power in a technology-assisted active learning environment.
