Abstract:
Big transformation is taking place at the community colleges in America. Some colleges and university are moving away from algebra as necessary knowledge to statistics as essential knowledge. This shift is wonderful; however, many instructors lack formal statistics training. Only 3% of all statistics instructors at community colleges have a degree in statistics. To make things more difficult there are limited opportunities or funding for these instructors to be connected with cutting edge statistics education research and to interact with well-versed statistics education researchers. During this eCOTS regional meeting, we will tap into the main source of internationally recognized statistics education researchers by watching parts of the eCOTS program together. We will also bring renowned leaders to this face-to-face meeting to facilitate scholarly interactions and also experience hands-on activities that can be implemented in the classroom when teaching statistics.
