November Results:

The cartoon for our 102nd cartoon caption contest in November is shown above. Amongst the 42 submissions for the contest, the judges found the winning caption for the cartoon to be “Data Mining dwarfs traditional statistical methods” submitted by Jim Brumbaugh-Smith from Manchester University. Jim’s caption can be used in discussing how modern tools in data science might help with drawing inferences from data gathered by nontraditional means.  Honorable mentions in this contest  go to both Anthony Bonifonte from Denison University for the caption "Everyone was happy to trade their pickaxes for PCs as data mining went digital.” and to Teddy Pierson, a student at University of Nebraska for the caption “The miners found many different types of graph-ite when they went down to explore.” Anthony and Teddy’s captions can be used in a conversation about the efficiency of computational methods and the value of visualizations.

Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption and congratulations to our winners!
