Caption Contest - November 2018 - Results

The November caption contest featured a cartoon showing a futuristic scene (say mid 23rd century) with people in a park looking at a statue honoring a “statistician with her laptop, 2018.”

The winning caption for the November contest was “A ‘statue’ of limitations depicted data analysis before the ‘monumental’ breakthrough of cloud computing took off!” written by Larry Lesser from The University of Texas at El Paso. The caption should be helpful in discussing how computational advances affect the processing and analysis of big data.

An honorable mention this month goes to Karsten Luebke from FOM University in Denmark for the submission: “The technology changed but the goals are still the same,” which can be used in discussing timeless themes in statistics like the goal of using quantitative information to better understand the real world.
