There were 26 entries for the January caption contest that featured a picture of a blackboard with various life choices listed: Marry/Stay Single; Own/Rent; Jaywalk/Wait to cross; Party/Rest; Drive/Go by bus; and Text/Call. In front of the blackboard is a boy flipping a coin.
The winning caption for the January contest was "A Statistician can make heads or tails of anything!," written by Douglas VanDerwerken, an instructor at the United States Naval Academy. Doug's caption can be used to motivate the importance of statistics in making decisions.
An honorable mention this month goes to Jenny Shook, an instructor from Penn State University for her caption: "Right/Wrong is always 50/50, right? Wrong!" which could be used to discuss equiprobable bias.
