February Results:

The cartoon for our 105th cartoon caption contest in February is shown above. Amongst the 27 submissions for the contest, the judges found the winning caption for the cartoon to be “The old factory normally poured out smoke and pollutants continuously, but the newer factory was built to be more "discrete" about its output.” submitted by retired AP Statistics teacher Jodene Kissler. Jodene’s caption can be used to illustrate the difference between continuous and discrete distributions.  An honorable mention in this contest  goes to Vikram Ostrander, a student at from The University of Virginia for the caption "Statistician debates whether to model his hike in steps taken or distance travelled” that might be used to provide examples of continuous and discrete measurements.  A second honorable mention goes to Taiga Sobajima, a student at Cal Poly for the caption “Some see pollution, others see information” Taiga’s caption is designed to encourage students to think about modeling versus data driven analyses.

Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption and congratulations to our winners!
