We had 11 submissions for the August caption contest that featured a cartoon showing two identical food trucks selling the same things parked next to each other – but one has a long line of customers waiting to be served while the other has no customers at all.
The winning caption for the August contest was “Queued for food, the customers failed to grasp expected average waiting time,” written by Larry Lesser from The University of Texas at El Paso. The caption can be used in class discussions that introduce basic queueing theory.
An honorable mention also goes to “With a one factor at a time study, Joe never discovered the interaction that drove Sally’s success,” written by Jim Alloway of EMSQ Associates. That caption can be used in discussing how the experimental design affects the interactions that can be detected.
