Abstract
When we send our students the message that we trust and believe in them, this can go a long way towards creating a classroom environment where students feel valued and respected. Now that our students have easy access to AI tools, can we no longer trust them to work honestly through assignments and assessments outside of the classroom, in non-proctored environments? If our assignments are such that we do not want students to use AI, are the only options to monitor students as they are completing these assignments, or can open and direct conversations with students about trust, academic integrity, and the limits of AI make a difference? Can we easily re-envision what we are doing so that AI can become a cognitive partner in the learning process, thus alleviating concerns that students will use AI to cheat? All of these issues will be discussed and debated during this session.
