Abstract
In this session we present three recent studies we have conducted investigating the incorporation of generative AI tools into a general education introductory level statistics course. We first describe students' thinking when using generative AI tools. Then we describe a comparison of students' thinking when using AI versus when using R. Finally we describe impacts that AI classroom use can have on students' interest in statistics and data science. We close with a discussion of recommendations the three studies in tandem suggest for secondary and tertiary level statistics and data science instruction, both in terms of curricular design as well as benefits for students.
