Consumer-level AI is now capable of answering just about any intro-level statistics question, sometimes matching or exceeding the performance of our best students and even many instructors. We should respond by changing our curricular focus away from answering textbook questions to asking good questions about the world around us. Such genuine investigation calls for concepts not found in traditional intro stats, e.g., adjustment for covariates, causal reasoning, and quantitative approaches to expressing belief and how we update belief in the face of evidence.
