The topic of statistics and data science teacher education is an important area of research and of practice that requires collaboration across disciplinary and academic unit boundaries. For example, statistics concepts are typically taught by mathematics teachers in schools requiring translating ideas from the discipline of statistics to practitioners enculturated in the discipline of mathematics which are overlapping but distinct, requiring different content knowledge and pedagogy. Similarly, teacher education at the post-secondary level is often carried out between colleges or schools of education and disciplinary departments which do not always collaborate to create a coherent learning experience for teachers. We will discuss these and related topics in this birds of a feather discussion.
