"As the demand increases for statistics graduates who can demonstrate strong programming skills and an ability to implement computational solutions, undergraduate programs must adapt to meet those needs. A natural question is how to best incorporate the development of strong programming skills in an undergraduate statistics curriculum. This birds-of-a-feather session would focus on three main questions that our undergraduate team at North Carolina State University has recently addressed as part of a curriculum redesign proposal.
- At what point(s) in such a curriculum should programming courses be included?
- Should programming be vertically (or otherwise) integrated into non-programming courses or only offered as stand-alone courses?
- What software package(s) should be included in the curriculum to best prepare the students?"
