Chance News is a newsletter that deals with current issues in the news that use probability or statistical concepts. From September 1992 to January 2005 this newsletter was prepared by an editor and a small number of regular contributers. As of Åpril 2005 Chance news will be a collaborative effort of its readers in the spirit ofthe Wikimedia projects . The Wikimedia software makes it easy for a reader to add a new chance item, or to modify an existing chance news items (hopefully improving it). The Wikmedia Foundation has used this software to successfully develop a number of projects including a free Encyclopidia, a newpsaper, and a series of books. All these are made freely available under the GNU Free Documentation License as will also be Chance News.

It is hoped that this will allow Chance News to continue to be a valuable resource for the general public and teachers of probability and statistics courses who want to liven up their courses with current .
