Prosody refers to the way words and melody work together in a song. We'll examine prosody on many levels, providing tools and examples to help you write more effective teaching songs. Prosody awareness will help you write better parodies, create original melodies, and deal with unwieldy scientific words. Ideas explored will be useful to beginning songwriters and experts alike.

Songs can be effective in engaging children with science. Tweens (children aged 8 to 12) are in an important preadolescent phase where individual interests are thought to be established. This study aims to determine if songs can help teachers to engage their tween-aged students with science. A review of the songs currently available to help teachers in Australia engage tweens with science was conducted. Few songs were found that were directed at tweens and most were aimed at content knowledge rather than engagement.

The video poster will be a brief outline of a project funded by the Stephen Hawking Foundation to create five music videos about high school physics. Research was done prior to their creation to inform the best approach to the song writing, video production, and accompanying resources and evaluation was conducted on the efficacy of the videos and their appeal to students and teachers.

This presentation focuses on the qualities and quantity of song usage to enhance student learning and depth of understanding. As an AP Statistics teacher, I incorporate over 50 songs into my curriculum to enhance and reinforce everyday learning. This, in turn, has allowed my students to get past basic knowledge and focus on enrichment. I will take you through my song-making process and show you the various ways that my students are able to access the songs. Use of iMovie, YouTube, and Google Sound Cloud will be touched upon.

Atomic Clock will be presented as a music video poster that explores the interplay between objective time set by clocks and subjective time experienced by humans. It is produced by Rock In The Classroom which is a nonprofit organization that creates topical music videos for educational purposes and general audiences. A draft of our video will be included through the email link on the proposal page. Atomic Clock examines the possibility of time as an illusory construct even as most of us do not apply this principle to our daily lives.

Science songs can often be seen in a one-dimensional way, i.e. "It's a song about genetics/ dinosaurs/space" or "It's a cool way to teach science" but science songs have different strengths and play to different needs in the listener. Some songs present factual statements that could be used as rhythm or rhyme based mnemonics; like jingles. Some songs portray an idea in a way that can help a listener to get a deeper understanding of it for example, a song about the roles scientists play in society or a song about a misunderstood concept (such as climate change or evolution).
