Through the support of NSF in Research Coordination Networks in Undergraduate Biology Education (RCN-UBE), we hope to facilitate conversations, learning opportunities, sharing of ideas and materials, in general networking between biologists and statisticians. Our project is titled: Statistical Thinking in Undergraduate Biology (STUB) Network: A network for coordinating the teaching and assessment of statistical thinking in introductory biology. We plan to accomplish several things through this grant, but our two main goals are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Develop a network of biologists and statisticians to discuss, reflect, and coordinate the teaching of statistical thinking in introductory biology courses.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate the assessment of statistical thinking and student attitudes in introductory biology courses.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.causeweb.org\/stub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/headshot-KMcGaughey-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Karen McGaughey (Principal Investigator) will bring together prominent statistics and biology educators to lead the development, implementation , and maintenance of the STUB Network.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-50\" src=\"https:\/\/www.causeweb.org\/stub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/BethHead.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"215\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Beth Chance (co-Principal investigator) will assist with workshop planning and assessment coordination.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The growth and direction of the network will be guided by the steering committee which consists of the following members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark Condon (Biology; Dutchess County Community College)<\/li>\n<li>Barbara Dolansky (Statistics; Dutchess County Community College)<\/li>\n<li>Elena Keeling (Biology; Cal Poly-SLO)<\/li>\n<li>Robert Gould (Statistics; UCLA)<\/li>\n<li>Greg Murray (Biology; Hope)<\/li>\n<li>Noa Pinter (Biology; UCLA)<\/li>\n<li>Jeff Ploegstra (Biology Dordt)<\/li>\n<li>Soma Roy (Statistics; Cal Poly-SLO)<\/li>\n<li>Todd Swanson (Statistics; Hope College)<\/li>\n<li>Nathan Tintle (Statistics; University of Illinois at Chicago)<\/li>\n<li>Jill VanderStoep\u00a0(Statistics; Hope College)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NSF RCN-UBE grant # 2231701<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to STUB Network, an online community engaged in improving students&#8217; statistical thinking in undergraduate biology courses.
